Impacts TODAY and into the FUTURE

FOLF funds programs inspired and supported by Laurelhurst school leadership, teachers and staff, and in close partnership with the PTA. FOLF contributions have exceeded $150,000 ranging from significant programs and staff positions to day-to-day needs, curriculum and supplies. FOLF funding supports current needs, but also provides for future generations through the growth of the endowment.

Reading specialist

FOLF and the PTA have partnered for the past three years to backfill funding for a dedicated Reading Specialist—a proven, critical resource in ensuring strong reading across all grades and skill levels. Our Reading Specialist benefits all students—supporting those who require more attention and allowing classroom teachers to continue with their lesson plan.

Playworks

Creating positive play environments help students become their best learners and friends throughout the school day. FOLF currently funds the Playworks playground program which provides inclusive, organized games that result in a safe and healthy recess experience. Older students help organize and lead the activities, adding an important leadership development element to the program.

Readers and writers workshop

Bringing renowned poets and writers into the schools for hands-on workshops allows students to dream big while building useful writing and creative skills. This FOLF-funded program provides kids with access to established writers and builds knowledge, inspiration and confidence in their writing abilities.

In addition, FOLF and the PTA have partnered with school leadership to fund a wide range of needs including:

  • 2017 Full-time teacher funding; saving a teacher mid-year

  • 2016 Leveled reading books for all grades

  • 2016 Math curriculum and workshop materials

  • 2016 Reading curriculum and materials

  • 2015 Leveled reading books for all grades

  • 2015 Reading assessment tools, curriculum and materials

  • 2014 Library construction and furniture

Support is needed to meet even the basic needs of our students, much less provide valuable enhancements. We are incredibly reliant on the community to support our school today, tomorrow and into the future. Thank you!
